Nuclear Safety – Do we over-do it to the detriment of societal needs?
Since the advent of nuclear power generation, nuclear safety has been at the forefront of considerations by governments, regulators, operators, other stakeholders and society at large.
In order to design, build, operate and decommission a nuclear power plant, a robust safety case (a story) that explains why you should be granted a licence needs to be presented and agreed with the regulator.
It could be argued that today, as there is a strong desire around the world to increase the contribution of nuclear power generation, our over emphasis on nuclear safety is slowing down/inhibiting the pace at which we need to build and deploy nuclear generating assets.
This webinar will delve into the routes of nuclear safety, the journey we have been on and perhaps what the future holds. It will open up the discussion to talk about nuclear safety – when is it enough?
