Tour of a motorway control room
You may have visited a railway or aviation control room, but have you visited a motorway control room? Well, now’s your chance to see one: National Highways are kindly offering you the opportunity to visit the East Region’s Regional Operations Centre (ROC) at South Mimms. With more than 600 miles of motorways and major A roads, National Highway Eastern Region’s roads provide main routes taking people and freight from the ports of the East Coast through the region to the M25, M1 and A1. The ROC actively monitors and manages the highway network, using the array of sensors at its disposal to allow operators to provide the signs and signals that people see as they drive on the motorways and to effectively respond to any issues or emergencies that emerge.
Limited places – please be considerate
Given the limited number of spaces please only register if you have every intention of attending and can make specific plans to do so. Clearly a failure to attend will deprive others of this rare opportunity.
We will be operating a waiting list for this event so if you are registered to attend and then, for reasons beyond your control, are unable to, please notify londonbranch@sars.org.uk immediately so that we may offer your place to someone on the waiting list.

Getting to the venue
Please answer the questions about your expected mode of transport when you order the ticket from Eventbrite – this will make it easier for us to coordinate between attendees.
Car: the easiest way to get to the control room will be by car. There is limited parking for the ROC itself, so if you are driving, we may ask you to park in the services which are a short walk away.
Train: we expect that some people will travel to the ROC by train – the nearest station is Potters Bar. Depending on numbers and availability of cars, we will be organising lifts / taxis from the station, so please be prepared to pay part of a taxi fare to & from the station if you’re travelling by rail.
Please note that this opportunity is open to both SaRS members and non-members.
