Layers of Protection Analysis
Layers of Protection Analysis studies, LOPAs, are commonly used to decide on the suitability of the protection provided by safety systems and particularly programable electric systems which have a certified level of performance or Safety Integrity Level, SIL.
Complex and detailed analysis studies such as LOPA are fraught is difficulties and pitfalls. Ian will reflect on his 30 years’ experience in HSE major hazards regulation to take a step by step walk through of the key stages of a LOPA study to highlight the important decisions needed and the opportunities for significant mis-judgements

These events are open to non-members and visitors, who are most welcome. Evening talks will commence at 1830.
As with all SaRS branches, the branch covers a wide range of industries and organisations which include marine regulation, naval design and support, Air Traffic Management (ATM), navigation and avionics manufactures, airports operators and defence industries.
SaRS Solent Branch covers central southern England below the M4 corridor from Dorset and Wiltshire in the West, to Sussex and outer London in the East.
Lectures address topics which are of relevance to Safety and Reliability Professionals and are an excellent method of keeping informed of current developments; additionally the meetings are an ideal networking opportunity.Since its formation Solent Branch has each year held a series of evening lectures, these lectures are normally held on the third Tuesday of the month between September and May each year. These events are open to non members and visitors are most welcome. The branch events calendar year runs from September to May each year.
